2018-2019 Season Summary:

Dates of Operation: December 31, 2018 to March 22, 2019

Season length: 81 days (11 weeks & 4 days)

March 22, 2019

We are still grooming trails almost everyday. Trails were groomed yesterday (Thursday) and will be groomed again tomorrow (Friday). Coverage is still good and skiing is great for this late in the season. FYI, skiing conditions are usually best mid-morning, approx 9:30-Noon.
Enjoy

March 15 2019

We will be grooming trails on Saturday and Sunday mornings this weekend.

March 11 2019

2" in new snow on top of old slush this morning at Vallecito. Trails groomed and new classic track set. 33 degrees in the morning and 41 degrees and raining by afternoon. Enjoy the skiing while it lasts. If you time it right, it is still really good!

March 6 2019

Everything groomed this morning (Wed.3/6). Warm but still good skiing. Mornings probably best skiing.
Hope the temperatures drop!

March 4 2019

Approximately 2-3” of new snow Sunday night. All trails groomed today, Monday, March 4.

March 2 2019

Fresh snow and warm temps recently. Trails were groomed and new classic track was set Friday night. However, fresh snow and 40 degrees on Saturday. We are getting to the time of year when the best skiing window will probably be approximately 8:30am – 11:00am. Freeze-thaw cycles make skiing (and grooming) challenging. Will continue to do our best

February 27 2019

We are finally caught up. Main FS Road and East Creek Road freshly groomed for skating and new classic track set. The Campground Trails are still a little rough but we hope to have those buffed out by today (Wednesday). We apologize that it has taken us a while, but that was a whole lot of snow!!

February 21, 2019

16 inches of new snow greeted our groomers this morning with more falling throughout the day. They are packing the trails with snowmobiles today. At this rate there will probably not be skiable terrain (except on fat touring skis) until this weekend. We are doing our best but that much snow is hard to tame.

February 20, 2019

All trails groomed today (Feb. 20) new classic track set. We’ll see how much snow we get tonight. Might be starting all over tomorrow.

Feb 19, 2019

Progress was made today in taming the approximately 2 feet of snow that we have received in the last three days. All trails were rolled and packed today. NOT groomed out with the Tidd yet. We should have a short respite from the snow tomorrow and hope to get things more packed and groomed. Thanks for your patience and suppor...it’s a process

Feb 18, 2019

Snowing super hard at Vallecito today. We are fighting the good fight but it may be a losing battle for the time being. Keep in mind that the road below the dam may not be plowed if you choose to go up to Vallecito. We have a crew out today and tomorrow. However, with the amount of snowfall, downhill skiing or touring may be the better choice.
Thank you for your patience.

Feb 16

No grooming today, sorry. We will try to have a crew out tomorrow (Sunday).

February 15, 2019

Another 8” fell Late Thursday night, that’s on top of the 9-10” from earlier in the evening on Thursday. All trails were groomed today (Friday) however, more snow is expected tonight. We will do our best throughout this storm cycle to keep trails groomed. Conditions will probably be soft at best. Classic skiing and touring should be great.

February 14, 2019

Trails were rolled and packed today but couldn’t really keep up with the new snow. Tomorrow (Friday) we may be at the mercy of the county snowplows. If the road to the trailhead is not plowed, we may not be able to groom the trails. Will try to post as soon as we have good info. Regardless, tomorrow will be a better day to downhill ski or tour in the fresh snow. Enjoy.

February 12,2019

Approx. 2" of new snow on Sunday night. All trails groomed and new classic set on Monday.
Bracing for big snow (hopefully) later this week.

Update: Feb. 9
Late night grooming heroics by Rob on Friday night have things in great shape for skiing Saturday. Get out and enjoy. Skiing should be great all weekend

Update Thursday, Feb.7
Groomers found about 4" of fresh snow on Wednesday morning and high winds. All trails were groomed yesterday, but winds may have covered up all of their hard work. But fear not, we will be back on it today (Thurs 2/7) to get trails buffed out.

Update: Monday, Feb.4
Trails groomed today for skating and new classic track set on Main FS road and East Creek. Warm temperatures and recent Rain/Snow/Slush have made grooming and skiing challenging. We are doing our best and temperatures are expected to drop later this week.

Update: Sunday, Feb. 3
No grooming today. Warm temps and about two inches of slush at Vallecito this afternoon. Grooming attempts would have done more harm that good. We will regroup tomorrow (Monday Feb.4)and hope for colder temperatures will might enable us to spruce things up.

January 29, 2019

Daily grooming of the skating lanes continues at Vallecito and the skiing continues to be great.
A well timed storm is looming for this coming Saturday, in the meantime, the skiing at Vallecito is awesome, thanks to our crew of volunteer groomers.

Update Jan. 18
Another 8" Thursday night at Vallecito. All trails packed and groomed for skating today. Classic tracks are being set this afternoon by The Maestro. Skating is soft and will hopefully set up some overnight. Enjoy the skiing this weekend. We will have groomers out Saturday and Sunday.

Update Jan.17

Approximately 8” of new snow Tuesday night at Vallecito. All trails groomed Wednesday thanks to the heroic efforts of all star groomers hiking to the trailhead Wednesday morning when county road was not plowed! Groomed for skating, no classic track set as of yet.

More snow expected tonight!!

Jan 14, 2019

Everything groomed today including new classic track set on Main FS road and East Creek. Enjoy

Jan 13, 2019

Snowy weekend. Approx. 8" new through Saturday and another 6" Sunday. Groomers were hitting it all weekend trying to stay ahead of the snow. (What a great problem to have!!) Two groomers were out today for about 5 hours each. However, it snowed hard all afternoon. Expect soft conditions and fresh snow until we can try to pack it and even then it will probably take a couple of days for the snow to set up. Enjoy the white stuff.

Jan 12, 2019

All trails groomed yesterday, Friday, Jan.11. Main FS road and East Creek groomed for skating and classic tracks reset. Fresh snow this morning will make the skating a little challenging, but classic should be nice. We will be grooming all trails again today (Saturday Jan.12). Should be a beautiful, snowy, awesome weekend of skiing.

January 1, 2019

Happy New Year from Vallecito Nordic! We welcomed the new year with approximately 3 feet of fresh snow at the trailhead this morning.
Groomers worked all day just trying to pack all of the fresh snow. It will continue to be a work in progress. Good skiing, particularly skating is still a couple of days away. We will continue tomorrow (Wed. Jan.2) to pack the trails. Hoping that all of this dry, fluffy snow will start to consolidate and set up for better Nordic skiing.
Touring and snowshoeing will be great options.
Also, FYI, as of today, Jan. 1 the road to the trailhead had NOT been plowed!! High clearance, 4WD vehicles only.
We are hoping that the road will be plowed tonight or tomorrow morning.
Thanks and enjoy the return of Winter!!

Dec 31, 2018

Okay, a couple of more inches fell Sunday night. More expected tonight and tomorrow (Jan.1)
Road and East Creek have been rolled and packed. Groomers will be out in the morning to begin initial grooming. Please give them a head start and be patient. Snow will most likely be very soft and classic skiing will be better than skating (FYI).
Fresh snow makes this a Happy New Year indeed!!

Dec 28, 2018

Between 3" and 8" fell at Vallecito from this storm. Main road has been rolled but not groomed for classic or skating. Coverage is very thin. The first half of the road should be good light touring or snowshoeing. Too soft for skating. We are hoping that snow sets up overnight and we will try to groom tomorrow (Sat. Dec. 29) Thank you for your patience

Dec 13, 2018

Still waiting for more snow and sustained cold temps at Vallecito.
Wish we had better news to report.

Dec 2, 2018

Dec. 2 Update
We are getting close. approximately 4"-6" on the ground at Vallecito trails. We need about 8" before we can get the machines out on the trails. Hopefully in the next few days...Will continue to update.
FYI, word is there is good, groomed Nordic skiing at Lizard Head Pass and Trout Lake!!
